Very Good

This is a really impressive book, or should I say a battle plan that has really caught my attention with its description. As I started reading I was amazed by interesting techniques offered. It made me a stronger person and more aware of machinations of enemies in our midst. A must have for anyone looking to win in life’s situations. Highly recommended.

Have the edge through mind control

This book teaches its readers great information about mind control. The idea of controlling minds amazes me. I never thought it really exists and there’s something to learn with the ability to influence. Yes, I agree with the possible mind control is intimidation. I am usually a victim of intimidation where I end up with no choice. Mind control is never easy and it’s truly wonderful to know that some people really possess this kind of ability to manipulate someone’s mind. It’s an advantage to have learning about the techniques of mind control, not to take advantage of people, but merely to defend oneself and win.

Really good book and worth the read for sure!

The key takeaway from this book I would say is the fact that I learned the mind can do so much more than I previously imagined. It truly is amazing what you can do with your mind and you can tip the balance of any situation just with a thought. I feel like now I am more focused, conscious about my surroundings and kind of like more in control of my life. Really good book and worth the read for sure!

With epic games come epic art

Mine's the paperback edition but for the hardcore collectors, you can indulge yourself with the limited Special edition and the Folio edition, which have suede leather-bound covers and other luxurious finishing.

In this book are character studies, 3D models, environment art, production art and storyboards. Just because the imagery doesn't move in this book doesn't make them any less intense. That's my first impression of the book.

The concept art is incredible. The work featured are beautiful and extremely detailed. You get to see the true pained face of Hades (sculpted and textured), know whether or not Kratos brushes his teeth from the texture maps, laugh at the straightened out snakes on Gorgon Serpent's head as its in the T-pose, get close with the hot Poseidon Princess and Aphrodite, or just marvel at the muscles, blisters, or intestines of various creatures that made it into the game, as well as many of those that didn't.

All the things you want to get a closer look on, but just can't because they happen too fast on screen, are now all captured in high resolution for your viewing. The designs are amazing. After looking at them, I'm not too sure who my favourite character is anymore.

A good portion of the book is devoted to the atmospheric environments on the game. You can see these spectacular places as they were in their concept stages, and compare them to the production art which is close to what you see in the game. Everything just looks really grand, Olympus City, Hades' underworld, Hercules' Arena, Labyrinth and all. This is truly one hell of a world that can only be created by talented artists.

There's also the commentary and interesting information that weren't even in the bonus section of the game disc.

The art direction for the game and art is wonderful. This is an intensely good art book. Highly recommended.

The character art is especially nice to look at since they put extra detail into that section to make the texture really stand out and let you feel like you could feel each and every wrinkle in their skin and such. The environment art has excellent lighting and the colors really add to the effects. They have pictures of the characters in the 3D from before any colors and such are added so you can see the entire process.

Overall this book is full of beautiful art and lots of detail and realistic textures. The artists add their own personal touch and talk about a lot of the work in the book. It amazes me the amount of detail they can get into the characters and give that lifelike appearance. This is a must get for any God of War fan.

About the Author
Nabia Abbott was born in Turkey in 1897. As a young child she was taken by her family across the Middle East to India, where she was educated in British schools and remained until after the First World War. Later she lived in Iraq and finally in the United States, where in 1933 she became the first female faculty member of the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. A leading scholar of Arabic, she specialised in deciphering early Islamic papyri. Abbott was the author of seven books and dozens of magazine articles. She died in 1981.

Best scholarly book on Aisha

Aisha bint Abu Bakr was, by all accounts, a strikingly beautiful and intelligent girl. She was also the Prophet Mohammed's favorite wife and, in his words, "the only woman in whose company I receive any revelations." She came to be called "the Mother of the Believers."

It's surprising that so little has been written about her. You can fill a library with books about Mary, Christ's mother and even Mary Magdalene has been the subject of a number of books and articles. I was unable to find anything about Aisha, except for Nabia Abbott's AISHA: BELOVED OF MOHAMMED. Published originally in 1942 by the University of Chicago where its author served on the faculty, it was reprinted in 1988 and 1998 by Saqi Books in London.

The tone of Professor Abbott's writing is formal and somewhat stilted, in my opinion. She was an educated woman and fluent in the formal English of the college classroom, but I don't believe English was her native tongue. She was born in Turkey and fluent in Arabic. She was also the first woman to join the prestigeous Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. She passed away in 1981.

Her biography of Aisha starts with her marriage to the Prophet at the age of 6. It then describes how she joined Mohammed's harem at the age of 10. She was approximately 18 at the time he died and was buried beneath the floor of her apartment.

Abbott includes a lot of information about Aisha's role after Mohammed's death. She demonstrated her mettle, as she had before, and reminded me of Elizabeth I in terms of political acumen and insight. Abbott's book includes a lot of information I've never seen anyplace else, especially about this critical period in Islam's early history.

At the end of her life, Aisha expressed the wish that she'd never been born. That's both tragic and ironic considering her contributions to Islam's formative period and the fact that her name was Arabic for "She who Lives."

If you're interested in Islam, the Middle East, women's studies, the Prophet or religion you'll like this book. Abbott strives for scholarly objectivity, but is intent on making sure the reader understands the historical context of the times into which this memorable girl was born.

This book is scholarly, well-written (if a bit dated in tone) and the only book I've seen on Aisha. I gave it five stars.

Unnecessarily Insensitive Writer

Nabia Abbott's lack of respect and insentivity to Islam and its leaders is very rude and unpardonable. The introduction and early chapters put the reader off, especially Muslims, as it un-necessarily catagorizes and opinionizes the Prophet's actions, motives and the Quran's contents. It is unfortunate to read a well researched book with such slanting views. Her account of Muslim history seems balanced and unbiased from a sectarian point of view, though her own prejudices and preferences, as customary in her times, of an orientalist are evident throughout when she comments on individual actions and events. The book carries many themes and agendas of the writer in itself. At times, it reads like a history book, though on occasions, it has a flavour of a sociological commentary of the period and at times, a critical review of Islamic Injunctions and practices. It is unfortunate that a book that could have been a valuable historical reference has lost its impact due to the biases and bigotory of the writer towards a religion that has over a billion following on earth.

very well done

The piano specialist at my local sheet music store informs me this is currently the best-selling piano method for adults. It's not hard to see why.

I had a student who was going through Bastien's adult method, slogging along. I switched him to this one, and he started making sparkling progress. After a few weeks, I asked him what he was doing differently. He told me he just loved this book.

As a teacher, I can tell you this book doesn't go as deep as the Alfred's. It's only two books, whereas not only is the Alfred's three, but goes a lot deeper with the student before pronouncing him finished. At the end of book 3 of Alfred's, for example, the author proposes you play Fur Elise and Toccata in D Minor in their original forms. There's no way you're going to be able to do that after merely going through the 2 Faber books.

But I would say this book does have an advantage over the Alfred's: it chips away at your piano ignorance, so to speak. Every lesson is short and gradually incremental. There are no monsters in the book to stare down a student and discourage him. No, songs look easy to play and you get the feeling of making swift progress without as much intimidation.

Faber Piano books

If you are an adult learning to play piano (as I am), the Faber books are the BEST. I started with the Book 1 (that my piano teacher purchased for my first lesson) and quickly moved through the lessons that included theory, chords, simple t(but familiar) tunes to songs that required a bit more diligent practice. The combination of music theory, the various chords and types of chords (such as blocked, arpegiated, Alberti bass) are explained, you have practice exercises, and then add them to simple songs. Along the way you are introduced to adding the pedal to songs. The second book continues where the first book stopped and continues to be a FANTASTIC learning tool. (I am a college professor and appreciate good educational tools). Highly recommend this book and its predecessor, Book one (be sure it is the All-In-One book so it includes theory, chords, as well as performance pieces).

Hot, sweet, totally addictive

Just like the delicious recipes described in this sexy little novella, the writing by Kimberly Kincaid is down to earth and comfortable, but oh so yummy! Far from the over done sappy fluff of a lot of romance writers, this reads so much more witty and real. I'm new to the foodie genre, but I'm loving it. The sensory mix of food and sex is a no-brainer, and Kimberly Kincaid has absolutely nailed it!! I can't wait to read her next offerings!

Great sexy short read

This novella is a great sexy short read. Violet sees food in vivid imagery, she is focused but has a relaxed demeanor. Noah is matched in his intensity and focus as a cop. It maks their heat even better! A must read. I can't wait for more from Kimberly Kincaid!!

The author did an amazing job in describing Violet's light bulb moment.

The brother's best friend trope is one of my favorites. This book was a pretty good example of that, not only were they friends, they were partners on the police force. I imagine that would make it that much harder, not to mention the fact that the heroine didn't want a relationship with a cop. Violet's father was killed while on duty.

The author did an amazing job in describing Violet's light bulb moment. I don't believe I could ever give up on the love of my life because of his job, no matter how dangerous. She knew he was a cop when they started spending time together, it's not like he hid it from her. Ms. Kincaid fed the characters emotions, Violet's fears and Noah's anticipation into the book seamlessly. I can't wait to read more from this author. I hope she gives Jason, Violet's brother his own story.

One thing I noticed about this story is there wasn't many secondary characters, in fact there was only one, the brother/partner. I usually love secondary characters so I didn't think I would like this book, but I was so focused on the hero and heroine's emotions and what they were going thru that I didn't even notice.
