Fascinating concept

Although the author is very heavily enamored with the theory of macro evolution, the evidence presented for the process of escaping the pleasure trap is quite convincing, and both scientifically and physically sound. The concept of water-only fasting as a cure for many modern diseases of excess is fascinating, and as a student holistic nutritionist, I am compelled to investigate this further, as I personally have very high "total cholesterol", even while eating a plant-based, whole foods diet. Fasting may, I hope, solve this and a couple of other pre-problematic concerns. Thanks for the research, & the excellent presentation.

Solid read on the roadblocks to a balanced and healthy life.

This book is filled with fascinating and well researched ideas and also serves as a logical guide to living by our nature. Overall, a well thought-out and intelligent argument for living intelligently and sustainably with a foundation in scientific evidence. For someone who isn't already acquainted with the many reasons to adopt a whole foods, plant-based diet, the amount of this book devoted to the topic could come as a surprise considering the title. It is, however, all relevant to the author's larger point. We must not allow ourselves to be overtaken by the excesses of modern society. Our well-evolved inner compass must be watched and protected, and this book serves as a terrific guide in how to do so.

My only criticism is that the points made were at times repetitive, but in a book with such a scientific focus that is not a bad thing. The larger picture really gets through, although at times I got tired of re-reading the same basic points. Don't let that deter you from reading, though! It's well worth the time.

wow book

This book gave me intense insight into the WHY of eating.
Elvis Presley died because he had too many choices. We are dying because we have too many choices. It is truly a pleasure trap. Happiness is found when we can have some self-discipline and integrity with our choices. Seeking pleasure IS KILLING US.
I also liked the whole arena of how to talk to others when making better choices than they are. I lived in Japan for awhile and "saving face" is a big deal. We don't think like that in America, we just throw our opinions out there, not caring who they hurt. Well, when I am with other women and I am not going to eat the crap they are eating, I want them to still love me AND feel fabulous about themselves. This book addressed that. I saw some reviewers didn't like that, but it was worth the price of this book. At one time I weighed 183 and a thin friend would say things that hurt me. Now that I am a healthy weight, I want to lead people by my example only and not tick them off with little comments.
Great book.
